Know Stoke Signs

Hearing of and visiting one of our local heros made me look into stokes a little more and how it can effect someone young. Again we assume it is never going to happen to us and I pray it never does, but a little education never hurts anyone. Per the CDC released a study showing an alarming rise amoung young adults in the number of acute ischemic stokes, by far the most common kind, in which the blood supply to part of the brain is cut off due to a blockage. It is funny I always thought that a stroke was due to older people or the fact that you were over weight, smoking, drinking bad eating habits. That is not ture is all cases and probably not Liz’s since she was athletic. They are finding that some casues of strokes can be from family history, etc. Another thing that can casuse a stroke is a car accident, motorcycle accident or a sports injury that effects the neck. A stoke can be devastating at any age. Never ignore a headache/migraine that cause you blurry vision and know some signs to look for: THINK FAST – F – FACE Ask the person to smile. does one side droop? A – ARMS Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward? S – SPEECH Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is their speech slurred or strange? T – TIME If you observe any of these signs, call 911 right away. Note the time when symptoms first appreared. Other signs: 1.) Numbness or weakness in arms, face or legs – especially one side of the body. 2.) Confussion or trouble understaning. 3.) Trouble of seeing with one or both eyes. 4.) Difficulty walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination. 5.) Severe headache with no known cause.
